General
Assembly does know the way to San Jose!
June 21-28, 2008
The 218th PC(USA) General Assembly conference is coming
to our city from June 21 through June 28 - - and host
San Jose Presbytery will be extending its hospitality.
The theme for this General Assembly is Micah 6:8: - "Do
Justice, Love Kindness, and Walk Humbly with your God."
We
expect nearly 1000 commissioners and delegates, plus
hundreds of visitors and observers -- up to 5,000 --
from all over the country, to join us for eight days
of deliberations, worship, and making decisions about
the mission and ministries of PC (USA).
This Presbyterian "family reunion" is a
rare chance to see how our denomination operates --
and in our back yard! Anyone may register to attend
($20,) and come to any general sessions as well as
committee meetings, special breakfast and lunch meetings
sponsored by various groups, and other interesting
special events including a giant Sunday worship service
being planned for the event center at San Jose State
University on Sunday, June 22.
San Jose Presbytery's Committee on Local Arrangements
(COLA) is coordinating the massive effort to prepare
for the conference, with committees on welcoming, worship,
media and communication, volunteers, and special events.
There is even a monthly prayer focus.
As the COLA moderator The Rev. Bob Bowles says, "Planning
efforts are underway to make this most pleasant and
productive. We hope delegates will leave with memories
of inspiring worship services, informative exhibits,
interesting meetings, fabulous mission and cultural
tours, and a blessed and memorable experience."
So save the dates -- June 21-28, 2008 -- and let this
GA contribute to your understanding and pride in being
a Presbyterian! |
