Second Harvest Food Bank
Early each Thursday a group of volunteers show up in front of church
to sort and bag canned foods, juice, and fresh produce delivered by
Second Harvest Food Bank. Nearly two hundred pre-qualified, low-income
seniors line up and file by to receive a bag of food, which
helps them through the month.
It’s a merry group of volunteers made up of FPC members, residents of U.S. Mission and Town Park Towers, and members of the Chinese Opera. Karleen Duchscherer, our church Administrator, acts as
organizer.
The seniors who get the food come from Town Park Towers, the Shires and other local residences.
Second Harvest Food Bank's Brown Bag Program provides weekly nutritious groceries to senior individuals (ages 60+)
and disabled individuals (ages 55+) at 55 distribution sites in Santa Clara County.
The Brown Bag Program has been in
operation since 1975 in our community and at FPC for the past two years.
